Over the past 50 years, companies in Great Yarmouth have developed into England's largest energy sector with more than 400 energy skilled and specialist businesses operating in an extensive offshore supply chain.

As England's leading centre for servicing the southern North Sea gas field, the remarkable range of expertise and experience available in the area is unrivalled. Knowledge has grown and expanded as the offshore industry has evolved, with the development of innovative solutions by local companies.

The offshore industry has attracted a range of world-class companies involved in support services and component manufacture, electronics and marine engineering including diving and marine construction, oceanographic surveying, geo-science data collection, subsea navigation, positioning and sonar seabed surveying equipment.

This experience and expertise has been transferred across industries, particularly into the growing offshore wind and renewables industries. Great Yarmouth has gained recognition from Government, being named as one of five Centres for Offshore Renewable Engineering (CORE).

As might be expected, quality boat building, repair and maintenance are also important industries for the local area. Great Yarmouth is home to high quality boat manufacturers ranging from large ocean-going sailing yachts and motor cruisers for sea and inland waterways, to lifeboat refits and traditional timber boat building.

Norfolk is an agricultural county, and the port plays a vital role in handling and distribution services for companies involved in farming and food processing, such as grain handling. The town is also home to the UK's largest independent fertiliser producer.

On the other side of town, just 15 minutes walk from the river port and just north of the outer harbour, Great Yarmouth is well known as one of the UK's top seaside holiday resorts. Complimented by the surrounding seaside towns and villages, The Broads and Norfolk countryside, the town's tourism industry attracts in excess of 4 million holidaymakers every year.
